It was the love of the Lord and the arts that brought Purcell and Cheryl Conway together. They met when both participated in a Gospel dramatic production in Alexandria, Virginia, in which Purcell provided technical support and Cheryl participated as a vocalist and dancer. Married in 1994, the Lord has ordered the Conways’ steps to work separately and together to produce Kingdom fruit primarily in the music and arts arenas.
Early in their marriage Purcell directed and toured with the Gospel stage play “How I Got Over” by Dorothy Hughes. Over the past 26 years he has provided technical support for numerous productions at their home church and served as director for their Praise and Worship Team. Meanwhile, Cheryl served as one of the directors and choreographer for the Dance Ministry for many years.
The Conways continued their collaboration with the production of Cheryl’s worship CD “It Is You!”. They were then blessed to co-author, produce, and direct multiple three-act plays for their home church's annual Christmas production, as well as several Good Friday productions. They agree that writing and working with their church family to produce the plays has been one of the most fulfilling endeavors of their lives.
In 2018, Cheryl followed the Lord’s lead to become a certified Issue Focused Minister of Healing and Deliverance within the Restoring the Foundation’s International organization and works with her Healed Heart Ministry team members to assist believers in being healed from hurts of the past and freed to live more abundant, God-centered lives.
During the pandemic, the Conways have been actively involved in supporting the church's virtual worship service. This new endeavor has led to the use of their home for staging and the development of video editing capabilities. And they were humbled and honored when asked to deliver their first joint message for the church's virtual worship service in August of 2021.
In 2024, inspired by a desire to encourage believers everywhere to seek a closer walk with the Lord, Cheryl published her first book, "Looking Forward to Eternity With A Smile On My Face." The book shares some of the divine encounters that Cheryl has had with our Lord and Savior as He shepherds her through her Christian walk. Her next book, "Meanwhile, Down Here" is slated to be published in 2025.
Purcell and Cheryl are currently collaborating on an original Christian drama production, "The Prodigal" which is based on the prodigal son parable from Luke 15, set in a more contemporary setting with music and comedy.
The Conways are blessed to be the parents of three wonderful children, Nia Spencer (William), Percy Rose, and Imari Conway, the grandparents of four and great-grandparents of one. It has been a journey of love, and Purcell and Cheryl are looking forward to seeing what the Lord has in store for them in the future. They give all glory to GOD, and are humbled by His many blessings in their lives. They fully acknowledge that without Him, none of this would have been possible.
To GOD be ALL the glory!!
